Blue Morpho

By pamelajean
The Blue Morpho Butterfly feeds on the juices of fermenting fruit. So, although it can be a bit messy on the feeding table, I wanted to capture the action. The difficult part is capturing this beauty with its shimmering irridescent blue dorsal wings showing, but it does have attractive eye spots on the ventral side. The only one that settled with open wings was a fairly tatty specimen. This is one of the largest tropical butterflies, and a group of them flew to greet me when I entered the butterfly house, my idea of heaven.

Now this is what those small sensors are so great for. Makes getting enough depth of field with a macro lens seem even more frustrating!

I like V2 and V3 looks particularly good to me. Unfortunately Pamela I don't think V1 works - the b/g is far too colourful it takes the eye away from the butterfly.

An even closer crop would probably solve the problem Brian mentioned-- It is sharp and clear other wise!

Many thanks for your votes and comments.
It's always interesting to know which you prefer, but I particularly liked the butterfly feeding on the banana in V1, though I have to admit it was a toss-up between that and V2.
I understand what you are saying, Brian, but it works for me, and I thought it was a bit more interesting than the usual butterfly shots, and that the feeding action might appeal to others too.

Great set but I prefer 1 cos the tight framing focuses the eye on the head of the butterfly which has such detail in it. The colour of the banana seems to go nicely with the insects colour too. Altogether excellent macros. Paul
