In Flanders Fields

By pamelajean
Continuing my abstract series, and with grateful thanks to all who took the time to look, vote, comment and award my Lavatera close-up.

This is a fascinating sculpture discovered at the Royal Green Jackets Museum in Winchester.
I haven’t been able to find any information about it, and am not even sure if it’s a permanent feature. I do, however, remember it was titled “In Flanders Fields”.
It’s circular, with large poppies on the outside, and soldiers and horses moving around and also being reflected. I was determined to get some interesting angles and have 3 to show you.

All glorious but at the moment it's V2 that keeps drawing me back. Remarkable images - effective and affecting. Might do a bit of research into this in anticipation of the time we can visit places again. Winchester is too far to go to in a day! 🙂 🏆

An amazing and emotive sculpture. Your photos give a good impression of the work and leave me wanting to see it all, impossible at present of course.

Very evocative Pamela - especially seeing the soldiers carrying a body in V1.

A different approach to commemorating "The Fallen" in WW1. Very emotive, but well captured.

Despite the grim subject matter I should think this is a beautiful sculpture to see in motion and a wonderful tribute to those who gave so much. Thank you for posting these images.
