I've been spending time editing all the flower pictures that I took in the summer, and it has been excellent therapy during this wet and windy weather.
Here is a pair of passion flowers from my garden. I spent a lot of time getting these right, there are so many "bits and pieces" in their unique structure.
The "passion" refers to the Passion of Christ, in Christian theology. The Holy Lance is represented by the pointed leaves, the Whips used in the flagellation of Christ are represented by the tendrils, the 10 faithful Apostles are represented by the 10 petals and sepals, the Crown of Thorns is represented by the radial filaments, the Holy Grail is represented by the chalice-shaped ovary, his Wounds are represented by the 3 stigmata and 5 anthers, and the blue and white colours represent Heaven and Purity.
