Passion Flower Duet

By pamelajean
I've been spending time editing all the flower pictures that I took in the summer, and it has been excellent therapy during this wet and windy weather.
Here is a pair of passion flowers from my garden. I spent a lot of time getting these right, there are so many "bits and pieces" in their unique structure.
The "passion" refers to the Passion of Christ, in Christian theology. The Holy Lance is represented by the pointed leaves, the Whips used in the flagellation of Christ are represented by the tendrils, the 10 faithful Apostles are represented by the 10 petals and sepals, the Crown of Thorns is represented by the radial filaments, the Holy Grail is represented by the chalice-shaped ovary, his Wounds are represented by the 3 stigmata and 5 anthers, and the blue and white colours represent Heaven and Purity.
(1/60sec @f5, ISO100, -0.3stepEv, 9mmFL, AP, daylight, hand-held, polariser).
Pamela.

I never knew that about the name! Fantastic information, Pamela...thanks.

Now I have to say that I looove how you've shot and processed this. The light and detail are superb, to begin with, but I also love how you've captured and included all the surrounding bits like the tendrils and things.

This totally bounces out of the screen.

BOING!

Saw your comment on another image and realised I hadn't seen any of your images for a while, so popped in to have a look. This is fabulous , such lovely detail and really looks like a flower, the one I dis looked so much like an alien it's sitting in file 13.

A stunning image Pamela, the colours, detail and clarity are sublime and you've presented these beautiful flowers so superbly.
Wow, I love this image. Took me back to when i was about 10 and my mom embarrassingly made me go with her to a ladies house to ask what the flower was growing in her garden!!

The colors in this photo seem very true to looking at the actual flower, as opposed to the colors being made overly bright or saturated which I personally find sooo easy to want to do! Brilliant Smile

As is said above, it is pin sharp against the pitch black background that foregrounds the flowers so well. Excellent shot and comp. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. The name of the flower in Turkish is "Çarkıfelek" and it means wheel of fortune, I thought you'd like to know.
By the way, all your photos are excellent and I like all of them a lot!
