Alton Station Footbridge

By pamelajean
I took a trip on the Watercress Line from Alresford to Alton, and what feature did I like best? Not the steam trains, but the old footbridge. Also, there is an obvious part that fits the Shadows Saturday theme.
Alton is a historic market town in Hampshire. The Mid-Hants Railway WATERCRESS LINE gained its popular name in the days when it was used to transport locally grown watercress to markets in London.
They say, "Let the train take the strain as you sit back, relax, and watch mile after mile of beautiful Hampshire countryside pass you by. The soothing sounds of the steam engine and the beat of the exhaust can be heard over the clickety clack of the train passing over the rails; there really is nothing quite like the sight, sound and smell of a steam train!" and I couldn't have put it better myself.
4 versions. V2 is my personal favourite, but V1 concentrates on the shadows.
Pamela.

I agree with you, there is something fascinating about all those old, coloured ironwork bridges (and their shadows). A super set Pamela.

What wonderful shadows Pamela and for me you have led with the right one, though the inclusion of the lamp in v2 makes that special too SmileSmile

The Green and Red combination makes for great photography. I particularly like image number one, it has been well observed and composed with great colour and wonderfully sharp well defined shadows - perfect for today.

I viewed all the images, decided on my comments, read your description, then saw that most other people had already said what I was going to!! SadSmile

v2 a definite winner but I do like the shapes in 3 as well. v1 has the shadows but the red rails leaving the sides at different levels upsets the balance a bit.

The lamp is integral to the structure of the bridge so it's V2 for me Pamela. It's a fine set though and all have great geometric elements - good to see them all.

You're right, there's nothing like the smell of the smoke from the old steam locos, much better than these nasty diesels! Wink A very fine bit of architecture too in this lovely old bridge, great set, Pamela Smile Think V2 has to be my fave, too...Wink
