Dream Time

By Paree
In the Aboriginal world view, every event leaves a record in the land. Everything in the natural world is a result of the past, present and future actions of the archetypal beings, whose actions are continuously creating the world. Whilst Europeans consider these cultural ancestors to be mythical, many Aboriginal people believe in their present and future literal existence. The meaning and significance of particular places and creatures is wedded to their origin in the Dreaming, and certain places have a particular potency, which the Aborigines call its dreaming. In this dreaming resides the sacredness of the earth. For example, in Perth, the Noongar believe that the Darling Scarp is the body of the Wagyl a serpent being that meandered over the land creating rivers, waterways and lakes. It is taught that the Wagyl created the Swan River. In another example, the Gagudju people of Arnhemland, for which Kakadu National Park is named, believe that the sandstone escarpment that dominates the park's landscape was created in the Dreamtime when Ginga (the crocodile-man) was badly burned during a ceremony and jumped into the water to save himself. He turned to stone and became the escarpment. The common theme in these examples and similar ones is that topographical features are either the physical embodiments of creator beings or are the results of their activity.

Several of your manipulations portray dreamlike scenes, Maureen, and they can draw me into a state of euphoria where I might be able to believe the myths are true. But reality will always burst the bubble, science and logic wipe out the dream, but the euphoric state remains a pleasurable draw.
William James says the emotion of euphoria emerges only when the self gives up its struggle with the world and instead surrenders to the uprushes of the subconscious life.
I love the colours in this image, the flowing lines and the spider's web in the centre, which suggested "creation" to me, a beautifully crafted delicate work of art.

Very interesting creation well as the write up.

Maureen, this is a wonderful construction and image. Thank you for your explanation....and the music, which I am listening to right now. The dreamstate in this photo is quite powerful...and dreams are always (at least for me) fading from my consciousness even when I remember them. They can be quite ephemeral.

Thank you for this image.

thank you Barbara I think the more educated and aware we become,
the further away from the earth we become like disconnected,
google tells me today it is earth day.?
it sounds lovely ....but what do we do,
I enjoy nature every day and am aware of the things we do to mother earth,

don't let us become disconnected from the earth,
its spring herein the UK, and you only have to go out into your garden space and LOOK properly and you will see so much
given from the earth for us to enjoy. Smile
