Greece, a petulant child.

Although I'm English, I've lived in Greece for eighteen years, I love the country. I love it's imperfections and the honesty of its dishonisty... It doesn't eff about with sophistication.

The people have a child-like openness and simplicity which is very endearing, but like children, they sometimes need to be told off, slapped on the wrists, and pulled into line. Such is the situation at the moment with the economy. The newspapers are full of it, loving every euro threatening second of the financial crisis.

My favorite bit of news this week was in the Athens News.

"Welfare fraudsters:
The most amazing findings come from Zakinthos. Out of the 700 drawing disability benefit for blindness, only 100 had appeared before the health inspection committees, and of these, 60 were discovered not to be blind. One was a taxi driver."

Personally, I love them all. Night from Crete, P, X
