Using textured backgrounds seems to be flavour of the month at present and makes for a fine image here but will not get the approval of the natural history purists.

Think you have it right Willie as needs the space to look into
What a capture in the first place with outstanding detail in the plumage and can even see you in his eye!! with the wonderful blue sky as well

So beautiful Willie - lovely depth in this image - it much more than a photograph but beautiful art - never mind the purists - it works so wonderfully well - the eye detail is amazingly sharp.

I really like the replacement of the bg Willie, it certainly works and the space in front. The detail on the HH is first class especially the eye and throat but unfortunately the maininterest being the bill is just slightly soft. I presume this happened from brushing out the bg layer. It certainly gets this 'Purists' seel of approval. It brings out the bird as intended.
