Into the Mist

By PatrickSmith
Some people from a local photo club wanted to know why I have so few images of this bridge. So in order to raise the bar a bit, I'm trying to show the bridge with lots of things happening to it all at once. So when the rare coincidence of low fog and high clouds looks like it might occur, I'm off to the bridge. This is more like how it feels to be here.

After shooting a nice red sunset filtering through the mist, the clouds opened up and I lucked out! The intentionally overexposed moon was actually a very small thin crescent at 20mm, but the overexposure and movement over 2 minutes makes it look much larger and more full than it really was. I've commuted from the sun into the fog many hundreds of times, but it is better to watch it happen from here.

I am in a study at nearby Stanford University for an injection to cure my little finger (er um... 'pinky' according to Koen!), which is getting bent by a disease related to my ancestors being from Scotland! It must be the loch water or something, lol. Anyway, I will be away again from EPZ after this Thursday for a couple of weeks. So I'll try to catch up over the next couple of days.

Patrick - this is a beauty! So much to like about this one, the golden reflections, the mist and the wonderful sky, love the hint of red and of course the moon! Hope all goes well.

Sounds like you might be from Morningside in Edinburgh, Patrick they drink tea with the pinkie pointing straight out, a terrible affliction or affectation which ever way you look at it.
Your image of the bridge is very interesting with the fog apparently traveling along the bridge structure while the moon shines high above.
Your work as ever is very interesting to view.
All the very best

Thanks Babs and sue and the passers by!

I can only use one hand right now so it will be a while before I can make any comments. Have a great weekend!

lol....i wondered how you got the moon to look so big as i know you had to use a wide angle for this shot, the effect looks good on the water and especially the fog, you were blessed with a good sky too, are you going to post one of the sunset ones from this shoot?

Thanks for your comments!

I can only type with one hand for this coming week while it heals but I'll catch up after that.

Thanks for the Megzie award Suzan! I'll have to think of one myself. Maybe for seascapes.

And thanks Nick (warney) for your award too!

Yes Terry it is the overexposure that does the trick! In the full version you can see the crescent but even the dark side is overexposed here so it looks full.

Pretty dumb question from your local photo club if you ask me - producing shots like this is justification enough.

Really fine shot - lots of interest and classy comp - the moons a real bonus - I might have hoiked the moon over to the left myself, just to balance it it up a bit ?? - who knows Smile

Thanks for looking! My hand is swollen so I'll still be out for a while.

LOL David, a simple clone and paste will do the job!

Hmmmmm, I thought your Kodak Instamatic Camera only required 1 hand to use????

This is what you need to do:
Get one of those flash cubes you've got lying around the Smith Mansion and snap it on good and tight, then grab a roll of 120 film, move the old bed pan out of the way, give your nursemaid the day off or maybe have her go to the grocery and pick up a large bottle of geritol that you may have run out of by now.....LOL!

Then.....Start snapping some pics...Smile

Hope you're up and about soon, we sure do miss your Kodak Moments...Smile

PS: It's Snowing here.....Smile

LOL Suzan, I'll take that advice into consideration! I saw the Atlanta snow on the tv. And watch out for even colder air heading your way. Most of the plants in my back yard would die if it was that cold here!

Awesome stuff Patrick, I hate showing my wife your shots as they always get and instant 'Ooh that is nice' and her response to my shots always has a longer delay before she answers, as if she's trying to find the right words! Smile lol

I am in a study at nearby Stanford University for an injection to cure my little finger (er um... 'pinky' according to Koen!), which is getting bent by a disease related to my ancestors being from Scotland!

Its known as being tight fisted, If a scotsman dropped a pound coin it would hit him on the back of the head.

Sorry Sean, but I get the same thing over here sometimes, so don't feel bad!

LOL Steve!
