I think this one just edges it Paul, the cropped sky has enhanced the bold strong composition.

The top of the large boulder just crossing the horizon I find irritating for some reason; have it well above the horizon or below it, but not almost on it. Hope that I have not upset you too much!

Even better large Paul. One little detail I like is the line down the middle of the rock which is reflected by the line of the stone wall in the distance. This a good image..Phil

Brilliant pic Paul, I love the sky, I think it is excellently exposed and also the neutral blue colour compliments the warm ground colour. I agree with PeteBaily about the boulder cutting the horizon (although I didn't spot it until I read the comment). You said in your last upload of this image that you felt the boulder dominated the image, I would say that if it didn't dominate that the pic would be boring. I think the boulder is a perfect f/g subject and well exposed to bring out the detail.

I have a feeling that had this been posted during the day it would have gotten more attention.

It's good sound work if you ask me.

thanks all for your comments and advice (all good)
i did wrestle for quite a long time composing the shot and found myself going back to the same spot over and over. It 'felt' right i did n't realise till i was inspecting the image on the light box how the deep curved groove within the rock flowed into the curve of the illuminated shoulder of whernside this is probably why it felt right.

Nice colour and tones, the composition is fine here, I don't mind the boulder cutting the horizon. I might well have made more a point of it.

All the best
