Taken at the annual air show at East Kirkby, Lincolnshire in September. Lots of interesting shots of various aircraft doing aerobatics ets. Taken at 300mm at 4000th sec which was too fast for a lot of shots and just froze the action including the rotors and propellers.I was quite pleased with this one because the propeller is not visible but the trail does give some sense of action. Any constructive critiques are welcome.

As you say you could have used a slower shutter speed, maybe 1/1000sec but holding the camera and lens up in the air is not best way of holding it steady! However that really doesn't bother me, the picture is very good.

What I would like to change is the composition. I think you will find that if you leave space ahead of the plane, i.e. to the RHS, for it to metaphorically 'fly into', placing the plane much further left, you will be more pleased with the shot. This can be achieved here by a small canvas addition, a little cloning and crop but it is always better to frame and compose your subject within the viewfinder of your camera. This applies to birds, people, animals, vehicles, maritime craft in fact anything that moves always seems to look more natural having space allowed in which to see or advance into.

I have uploaded a mod to give you an idea of what I am suggesting.

A really nice shot. Agree with Frank. Ive uploaded a different approach to the mad to achieve the same result, and also adjusted contrast, noise and sharpness.

Well done,

Excellent image, Peter, the red and white looks great against the plain blue sky, and the trail shows up beautifully.
You have left some space in front of the plane, which is good, but the modifications are equally good, showing what a different composition can do.
I have nothing more to add.

Rather a nice image. Think I would have dropped ISO a bit a 1/3000 not really necessary. However, quality looks good so no problem..

I like this shot....the colours and angle of shot work well.... again you are lucky that the prop is out of view considering your shutter speed used.... a speed of 1/1000 would have been okay.

'Focus Mans' mod is good as he rightly says giving more room to the right of the composition gives more room for the plane to fly into... so try to concentrate on your composition... I know which is hard... with on-going action shots.... I too suffer from that syndrome Smile

I would have maybe done some tweaks in levels and a little sharpening.... but that's just me Smile

All in all a good shot... well done.
