Different generations...

An image open to debate. Please feel free to admire, challenge, discuss, or ridicule as you please.

Thank you for all you open and honest comments following yesterdays upload. I was under the impression that the image composed of three components, but hey ho that is bye the bye.

I hope that you all have a great day, I am still not firing on all cylinders but working on 3 is better than 2.

Ridicule, Me! The thought of it.

A clever well thought out image, well composed and amusing. It just seems a touch flat. Perhaps just a brightness boost to add a bit of extra impact.

The ultimate misers' drying line.

I know what Paul means about a little flat - perhaps reflections. But that would alter YOUR image too much. Interesting concept and I do like your colourful pegs.

Its not about ridicule but constructive comments Nathan..For me it needs a sense of direction, (yes i know its not a moving object), by giving a little depth maybe a slightly different POV, just a little to much open space at the bottem of the image. Again its a little flat and reflection could help in this one. Please take this as constructive and not a put down. The concept is good.

Witty! And very stylish, in an odd sort of way.
I agree with Paul that this needs a touch more brightness. Plus I'm seeing a light horizontal streak in the black. I'll try a quick Mod to deal with both issues.
Re the streaking in the black background - it's a good insurance policy to view an image like this with shadows lightened by 25%, that will throw up any problem areas!

on my monitor I can see the streaks also Nathan perhaps the black was cloned in I find if I clone a patch if when I think it is ok I stand up and look down the front edge of my monitor and this tend to show up any blotchy parts the image when did you see Rods washing line told ye they were tight up there

Hi Nathan, thought I'd join in with my comment and mod I agree the bottom of the frame has too much black for me so in my mod I've simply cropped to a more square format. To tackle the flatness I would have taken this at a slight angle and allowed the focus to soften as it travels along the line so to simulate this I added varying degrees of Gaussian blur to the middle and left tea bag to give a sense of depth as well as suggesting the tea bag use is fading away.

What do you think?

Having worked for Scarborough Corporation catering dept in a sea front cafe, I can relate to this!! Grin

I can't see any streaking on my monitor at normal resolution, but if I grossly lighten the shadows I can see light coloured areas and splodges in different places. Maybe slightly unfair because that's not how you would view it normally.

"When I am old I will wear purple" - a great idea well executed Nathan - were the colours relevant
or simply as you pulled them out of the bag (pegbag that is!)?
Can't see the streak myself.

I think you've got this photography lark 'off to a tee', Nathan!Wink
It's a great image, well thought out in your inimitably creative way!Smile
Having read the comments and critiques, maybe brighten it a little then use the magic wand tool to select
the areas that, perhaps, should be black and then fill with black to enable even colouring. You may need
to reduce the tolerance to avoid other blackish areas being picked up by the magic wand.
Hope your firing on all four cylinders soon,

Its a creative idea Nathan. When I look closely at the pegs, they remind me of waiters, bowing with a hand on their middle, and one behind the back!

It is a little underexposed. And I also think about the peg colours, with the red being stop, dont use this, and see that perhaps a green and a yellow traffic light system could complement the idea?

In the mods, apart from exposure, Ive tried to get the other colours by using the hue slider on a layer, then masking off. Its works, but yellow is not quite there.

I would crop a little height off, and still maintain that drying on a line height which I think you need, simply to get a useable A4 aspect ratio.

There is some visible lighter area down lower, - perhaps some filling in with black not complete, - or deliberate, dont know, so in mod1 Ive used all black, and mod2, for no particular reason other than to try to use what you may have intended, I stuck in some old style wallpaper. Theres a fancy French term for this sort of thing Im sure.

Hope this is helpful,

this is a great idea , a very unusual way of showing the passage of time and i like it , do agree with some of the other comments about the choice of colour on the pegs ,if i was in total control like you were with the pegs i would have went for the red, yellow and green ( colours of life ) would have suited this image , but hey the image is so different anything goes , well done Nathan

great idea,very nice

this might have been said but couldn't be bothered to read all the replies lol,i'd have tried and angle shot too and a bit more line at the left would give the angled shot a lead in.

when shooting stuff in my home studio like this i always shoot multiple angles, exposures and compositions as well as the original idea, that way i have all or most bases covered
