  • E1 Squad RAMC 1955

GREAT ! Many thanks for joining in ! our Drill Corporal was a good bloke and after passing out parade he treated us to drinks -- I had never had 'Alcohol' coming straight from School and didn't like beer but he bought me a 'Pimms' mixture I remember. He was a bit of a 'Skiver' --- one day we had Stretcher Training -- running up and down the football pitch with our Gas Masks on carrying a Squaddie on a stretcher then he said we could all go 'behind the Air Raid Shelter for a smoke while he went off somewhere -- I didn't smoke so had to sit there for 45 mins or so then he came back and marched us back to our barrack room.
I was 'Educated' having GCE 'A' Levels so didn't have to go to Army Education classes -- so I was put onto shovelling Coke -- as I did the RSM ' a huge big guy came along on his Army Bike and stopped - " What are you doing Laddie " he asked -- " Shovelling Coke Sir" --- " WHY are you shovelling Coke Laddie? " ----- " Because I am 'Educated' and do not need to go to Army Education Classes , Sir" --- How long have you been in the Army. Laddie ? " --- " TWO WEEKS Sir " -- " Well carry on then Laddie but next time don't shovel bits of coke near my Bike " ------ !!!

Well, I will do a 16x12" darkroom print as you suggested and enter it into a Club Print Comp -- and you can share the Prize!
    • 5 Nov 2015 8:06PM
  • The Busker

I took some at 1/250 but I stopped down a bit as I wanted to get the Busker sharper -- I DO print darkroom prints still and do 16x12" Exhibition size prints -- this looks better under a x6 maginifier than on a scan -- no Camera Shake '

I USED to be a Camera Club Judge myself about 40 years ago !! I got fed up with travelling to a Club only to find THREE PEOPLE turned up with only 8 prints to Judge Ardleigh House CC in Romford springs to mind !! I HAVE Judged in the Philippines many times at Cebu Images camera Club -- 69 members and ALL ACTIVE and I get a meal beforehand. I spoke at a meeting of the Photographic Society of the Philippines about 20 years ago in Manila -- they meet on 14th floor of the Intercontinental Hotel, Macati area. There was a proper sit-down meal first with Waiter Service, then they all sang the National Anthem and the flag was illuminated--- i had only my little Pentax Program A with ONE lens as my Filipina Wife told me not to take any more as there are so many 'snatchers' there but I managed to get some good slides of a 'Starlet Model'' they had!
They all had HASSELBLADS, LEICAS, Latest NIKONS etc etc with HUGE LENSES ---

  • Neena

Not enough light on her Front -- it's all on her back so front body is in too much shadow and eyes go to the very light window.

  • Don't Tell the Wife !!

Thanks all -- YES we were touring Ring of Kerry with the 'Crusaders' company from Clacton ! I have only a Epson 1650 flatbed scanner not a 'drum' scanner and do not get all the sharpness as I would like but darkroom prints are better. I have tried with a cardboard mask that holds the film strip slightly off the glass surface and also ON the glass but then I get 'Newton's Rings' !! I am never sure how much 'Unsharp Mask' to put for these forum photos -- I use Radius 0.7 or 0.5 amount 180, sometimes 'threshold' 1
    • 7 Oct 2015 7:43PM
  • Bear Cub

Good result BUT it has 'Blue' Colour cast that you could have corrected as I see you used 'RAW'. The 'Black' Bear is quite 'Blue'
    • 7 Oct 2015 6:13PM
  • Dead and Alive --

Thanks -- but I use my FREE Scanner only for 'Forum' use where I never win anything -- if I want a REAL Photo I do a darkroom print to 20x16" or 16x12" Exhibition size and they are much better !!

  • Girls on a Train

Ah Yes -- I had the Leica at Waist Level with a 35mm f1.4 Canadian Leitz Lens-- of course there is NO MIRROR on a Leica as it is a Rangefinder type -- I 'guessed' the distance and shot at f2 in the available light in the carriage. The days when you could have camera at 'eye level' like Henri Cartier-Bresson did are long gone as everyone is so conscious of cameras and 'Young Ladies' will think and Old Bloke like ME is a 'PERV'.
Also I did NOT CROP to a square as I put it onto some 'LEICA' Forums and pics should not be Cropped as per Cartier-Bresson required with his photos --- thanks for all your replies and i had a look at the 'Modifications'

  • Dog Under The Table

Thanks for your comments -- well, I was given about 7 cassettes of outdated 'Scala 200' with a load of Fuji slide films from a member of Upminster Camera Club -- films were not in boxes so cannot tell the exact date -- he was going to take them 'On Safari' and they were left over in his loft ! I won an award at Brentwood Photo-Club with a photo taken on the Scala processed as a negative and have just done some 16x12" Glossy Prints from some more of my Philippine negatives on it.

Which ONE -- the FUJI or my PENTAX ME SUPER ---- ??? !!!
    • 17 Sep 2015 11:01AM
  • Rosa

It has a 'Cyan' Colour Cast -- you should have used a PENTAX ---

Thanks !! But I used my 'gift' COSINA CT-1 for PRINT films and my Pentaxes for B&W and Slide films !!

  • Posh Restaurant

Nothing like a bit of Boiled Rat with Rice -- DOG stew isn't bad either -- it was very tasty !
    • 17 Aug 2015 11:01AM
  • Chingford Festival

Thanks -- pity about the rubbish bins and stuff in the background -- I was using a wide focal length and on a 'digital' it gives much more Depth of Field than on a 'Film Camera' due to the smaller Sensor size so I could not get it out of focus BUT the local newspapers don't worry about such things and USE it !
