We've seen some great features appearing in digital cameras and one thing that really impressed me recently on a Sony camcorder with touch screen has brought me to develop the concept for Combined Intelligent Spot metering (CISM) It's my thought for the future cameras.
Basically the Sony Camcorder has touch selection spot metering. You move your finger over the Live View preview to the area you want to meter from and the spot meter takes a reading and the preview adjusts to show the new exposure. The trouble with this is it's based on average metering so you need to compensate.
So my new CISM has a shadow spot button and a highlight spot button. You touch which areas you want each to meter from and then you press the CISM button which looks at the range of exposure and adjusts the Dynamic range to record all the values from the highlight to the shadow in one shot, compressing or expanding the dynamic range to suite the tonal range.
It's going to be great...now to find a developer/patent office before anyone hears about it my new feature...
