I visited a stately home a few months ago. Almost every room had a collection of stuffed birds or cased insects (many were duplicated (in fact, in some cases there were dozens of the same variety). This was the home of someone who obviously liked to "bag" his prey, and show it off with pride.
Thankfully those days are over, but it lead me to wonder what today's baggers do. We've recently had someone join the site who's clearly joined as a publicist as he's boasting all over the internet that he's bedded 100,000 women!
But for the rest of us, what do we bag photographically? As a "jack of all trades" photographer I'm constantly trying new things and adding a wide variety of subjects to my photography archives. I suppose my glass case is ePHOTOzine. I guess some "bag" camera kit! Others focus on one aspect of photography (say birds) and bag every variety.
What is it that leads us to collect? Is this mostly a man thing? Did I Spy books start it off? Is it hereditary? These sorts of thoughts drift into my head from time to time. So I thought I'd share them with you
