New look forums

Photography and music are my two passions. I edited photography magazines for around 20 years and launched the UK's first digital imaging magazine. I founded ePHOTOzine and was owner / publisher until 2013. The photos in my portfolio are ones I like from shoots I do in any spare time I have.

New look forums

Very soon we will reveal our new look forums. The guys have been working hard on making the new system integrate with the rest of the site. While we've been upgrading the site gradually the new V5 look has only appeared in smaller areas like these blogs and the forums is the first section that will affect the majority of users.
We hope you like what is about to appear.

One of the new features is e2 members can add photos to forum posts. This will make it easier to explain things as you can now add illustrations to your post. The images are automatically resized.

But a major change is a new user profile bar that features a new comment box. This will make it easier to comment on an older post in a thread as you won't have to scroll up or down to have it near your comment box.

The minutes are counting down Smile

I'm really sorry Pete. I know that some sections of the site have been updated already and we've had plenty of time to give feedback, so anyone who doesn't like it and has said nothing only has themselves to blame. But I'm going to speak my mind 100% and say I think the site looks awful. It is even more gaudy, looks like it's designed for 5 year olds, and the content has been pushed over to make way for even more obtrusive advertising. It does not look like somewhere that shows serious photography, or for that matter where a serious photographer might want to show their work, something I will have to think about I'm afraid. The site is a design disaster, as far as I'm concerned.

I feel very shitty for saying this but i agree with the above. Its a bit ceebeebies now, the colours detracts from the subject matter, and the adds are a bit annoying, too obtrusive.

I feel bad for this because you have welcomed me here with open arms, but the new look is slightly tacky, im sorry but i have to be honest. Maybe we will get used to it in time, but right now its just a colour fest with more icons than a religious shrine. And that bar down there, ill probably never use it.

I dont envy you, i know how much of a headache web design is, spent many a stressful few weeks and sleepless nights while fixing my own website, and i know how most folk are opposed to change, personally i relish a change, but sometimes change can be for the worst and regretfully this is the case here.

Ill always back ePz, its a wonderful place to be a part of, and i look forward to seeing what happens next, but i do feel a little sad about this new look, it does no favours in my view.

The additional functionality provided by the redesigned elements are fine (like the comment box on the user bar) and so it the option to dock it to the side of the screen (as most of the time I find it distracting). There is a clean (functional) look, but it's all a bit too Mothercare, which I think is due in part to the colours and the sizes of the differing elements. Like the blue box around this comment box and the icon bar, just too big and obtrusive to the eye.
