While everyone's clambering to buy petrol before it dries up...I feel less pressured as I cycle past on my short journey to work.

The journey's about two miles. I arrive at work with a refreshing, but slightly tired feeling. I used to cycle to 11 miles to work when I was at EMAP. It involved a long stretch of Fenland up against strong winds. It felt like the gods where against me. Yet I arrived at my destination full of energy.

So now am I unfit, unhealthy or just older? I'm not sure, but the ride is certainly more tranquil and it's my only guaranteed fitness program so I'm not complaining.

Now where's my morning snack...

Aghh, I am afraid you have hit a nerve ! I stopped driving to the station and now cycle and could cycle to work from Waterloo. South West do not allow bikes during peak hours and I do not want a fold up bike. I have written to SW Trains, the mayors office (under Ken), my local parliament member and at the time copied Tony Blair and David Camron suggesting that 1st class be removed and bike racks get installed. I actually got responses from most parties but it was just a lot of dribble and pages of no answers !
Rant over !

Just older, probably. Wink But keep cycling, it's very healthy! And you see more than when you whiz past in a car!

We live 4 miles from anywhere that has invented public transport - every time the prices go up it hits us! I'm a fluffy, nearly 50 year old - yes I could walk/cycle, but have you ever tried getting a weeks groceries in the saddle bag!!! Smile

Unfortunately age catches us all in the end.

The only exercise I get at the moment is walking from the front door to the car. I really want to get out on my mountain bike for a bit, but I've got a dodgy knee that's waiting for a hospital appointment - too painful to cycle at the moment. :-(

I tried cycling to my work but its along York outer bypass & in the morning the traffic whizzes by at 60+ its ok coming back because its one big car park .It is terifing to have traffic shooting by at less than a foot away ,I could go into town & out again but I ask why travel 12miles when the bypass is only 4 miles The local council will not provide a cycle way along this particular stretch as there is "inadequate use" there would be lots more using it if they did ,but its a catch 22 situation
So I go in my 4x4 to work,I am a caravaner & my job is a white van man & some people hate me !

I have a 10 minute walk up the road to school each day......sounds good , but there are at least 4 or 5 staff who drive that way to school so I end up having a lift. They are killing me with kindness!

I'd love to be able to cycle to work, but with all the photographic gear in the dining room, I don't think I'd get a bike in as well!! Wink

(I do come down a flight of stairs!!) Wink

I used to cycle thousands of miles a year in my younger days, but you've got it right Pete! You're getting older! Tongue
