Hover-fly with snout

By petebfrance
Came across this while looking for butterflies.
About the size of a hornet, looks like one and even makes an angry buzzing sound like one when disturbed.
Closest in my book on insects (the book makes me shudder every time I open it) is Rhingia Campestris. The colours are different, but they may be related.
Looks like some sort of robot insect to me.

A rather beautiful close up photograph depicting the rather gorgeous looking Hover Fly, having a spot of lunch, beautiful natural colours and rather defined detail, superb.
