In no art form should you ever harm the subject. Sorry, not impressed.

Autumn is here

Autumn is here by sluggyboy

I appreciate that this is your first attempt but it doesn't quite hit any notes for me. It's not sharp enough and there is too much going on for the eye to focus on any particular point. The candle is too bright, from a personal note I would of used a little faster shutter speed also making the shot sharper.

One possitive you clearly understand the rule of thirds.

Keep trying though, practise makes perfect!

Storm Coming In

Storm Coming In by Mbopp50

It is an excellent spot, it looks as though there could possibly be some buildings or something below not allowing to get any lower because I find theres too much empty space above the cloud. Excellent cloud formation though.

ROBIN by lagomera

Agree about the twigs infront of the bird, if you just moved around to the left a fraction you could of got the clear shot, Robins are normally quite happy for you to move about as long as you don't get too close. Also if you moved round and got the Robin then looking into the camera could of been an excellent shot.. It's very sharp and the exposure is spot on so well done there.

Celtic Cross

I'm afraid this image doesn't work for me! The flare is distracting, too many shadows with no detail and the direct light has not helped the shot at all. It's good that you spotted the subject which is something that would grab my eye but next time you come across something like this. If you are ever unsure take photos from every angle so you get an idea of how the light effects it.

floating in the grass

Agree with Paul, plus I'd of kept the front of the boat in focus and calmed down the saturation in the greens.

RIU by MrBMorris

Technically good. Tiny bit over exposed.

Shame you couldn't get directly under because I think that would of made for a great shot.

Your photography is clearly coming on.

Really like the HDR effect Ben. Purely from a personal point of view I may have tried another angle as the post covering the nearest quad is a bit of a distraction. Great effort none the less.

Excellent first attempt mate. I agree with the crop suggestion, a definate for me. Improvements to be made, but a fantastic first effort to be proud of. Have not walked through there in years! Nice little church.

Reflections by carper123

Super image just one thing for me that lets it down, grass is a little too saturated! Otherwise great image.

Trapped by arhab

Not to my taste I'm afraid. Can't imagine many people would want to see a mouse that had been killed.

The problem with this image here is that there is no focal point, wheres the interest? If it were autumn with lots of color it would probably work better for me. Plus from a purely personal point of view I don't like the angle it's been shot at.

Next time try and include some interest, a "focal point".

P-78 Cazadora

Lovely shot Ben, great detail. Improvements wise I'd recommend including either more sky or sea so the horizon is not as central and try and capture a bit more detail in the sky. Though to be fair I can see visibility was not great! Great effort though.

American Eagle

Again with this image I would crop some of the space to the right, I get why you did it like this though as it is where the bird is looking into, I would personaly of cropped a little tighter but fantastic detail. Eye is pin sharp. I have shaky hands and sadly never get my images PIN sharp!

Excellent shot Ben, I would crop some of the green at the top off to make it tighter but otherwise superb shot! Great detail.

In the pink

In the pink by kathrynlouise

Hi Kathryn,

Well, there are a few things here to bare in mind for next time. For me the image for a start is too dark and doesn't show the full potential of the beautiful flower. The other flowers are distracting and not really needed in the shot so maybe a square crop of just the main subject.

The main issue is down to sharpness, I would say the lighting was not great meaning the shutterspeed was not quit fast enough and looking at the exif data 1/17th of a second hand held is not quick enough. I don't feel there is much need to upload a modification, I would just take this into consideration when taking your next shot!

Experiment, thats the beauty of the digital age Smile.

Your work is absolutely outstanding, as a clear pro what would you reccomend for me as a beginner? I was coinsidering a home course so I can still work full time and earn money. I have made a subscription to a good magazine and stuff and it certainly helps but I feel I still don't TRUELY know the basics behind shutters speeds etc and f numbers etc....
