It's been a while since I last wrote something here. Not because I didn't want to, but just because I haven't had the time, having been heavily involved in DIY work at my son's house and supporting my elderly mum who had a fall a few weeks ago. Most of the DIY is finished now and mum has more or less recovered.
In the interim period, the local Camera Club season has got started and I'm up to my eyes in selecting images for a variety of competions. I use feedback from this site to help me select suitable images, although I don't follow that rule slavishly as I find that the approach to judging at camera clubs to be far more considered (albeit, on occasions somewhat rigid) than much of the feedback on here which is often, in my view, based more on emotion and impact rather than the photographic/artistic merits of the image.
Certainly some images that have gained very little in the way of positive feedback (or clicks) on here have done well both in camera club competitions and in open & international exhibitions.
On the other hand, images that have done well here (perhaps because they fit within certain categories) have disappeared without trace when exhibited elsewhere.
After 30+ years involved in photography (5 different camera clubs, 2 postal portfolios and this site) I've developed a thick skin and take comment (or even lack of it) with a pinch of salt. I do photography for fun, not to earn a living, and take images that please me. If they please others then great. If not, so what!
