Helvellyn

By pfheyes
Or 'Helvellyn and Striding Edge' to be more precise.

Spring was starting to appear in the valley, but it was alpine conditions on the ridge. I got up at stupid o'clock, which meant I had the place pretty much to myself - handy when I was stopping frequently to take photos! This was the most dramatic image from the day.

Thanks very much for looking.

Pete

That's the best time of the day Pete. I've come off hills a few times recently to be asked by people on the way up if I couldn't sleep.

Excellent exposure and lighting.

Great shot, I really like the way you've caught the line of the hills [looks like a mountain to me!] and followed it along, it's very effective. Thanks ~ Clare

Hello Pete, nice to see you have been let out again, lol...you are so correct to get away early, so many times the photographers day ends at 10am...love the snow on the ridge and its interaction with the cloud and light. Good work.

A little extra the clouds over the peak that gives the little special in it.

This to me is fantastic work...to climb is fantastic, to climb and take shots like this is super fantastic, you are now one of my four photographers who do the high stuff while I work nearer to the ground...happily.
Marvelous exposure Pete, the light and depth are both wonderful.
All the very best

Hello Pete, welcome back. I climbed up there once when it was full of snow. Not sure if its something I would do again (wimp). Great shot. Love the light hitting the short scramble up to the top of Helvellyn there.

Super shot Mr H, wonderful sense of scale and full of detail.

Like the way the light and shadows play across the slopes. The mist on the
summit the icing on the cake in this one.

Great stuff.

Pete

Hi Andy - I got the "stupid o'clock" phrase from this website! EPZ is an education. Smile

Hi Steve - I decided to have a break from EPZ for a short while and do a bit of housekeeping at the same time. The older images are accessable on my website (which I'm currently updating).

Hi Jeanie - okay, it's a grade I winter climb, but it's not for the faint hearted either. You must be chuffed at climbing it this way under snow, even if you won't do it again!

Once again Thanks.

Thge varied light really makes this Pete, it's a great feeling isn't it when you've got a ridge like this ahead of you in these conditions, such anticipation, and you've brought it all back! Cheers
