Spot on exposure to bring out the detail on the snowy mountain Pete. Lovely light and shadows.

There was fresh snow on the Scottish mountains a couple of days ago but I couldn't get out in the hills :o(

Imagine it could have been a tricky shot, Pete but it looks grat. Lots of detail. One big niggle though - you haven't told us where it is!! Is it from your recent Helvellyn trip again?

Going to say exactly the same as Iain re the location Pete, don't want a 10 figure GPS readout but a general location would have been nice!! (I am a map and compass man myself, GPS indeed).

Oh.....the shot, nearly forgot, plenty of detail in there Pete, nice light too. A difficult one with such contrast between shadow and sun, but you've got it just right I think.

Great shot Pete, I am intrigued by the small thread of a stream in the foreground. The overall impact of the shot with the light and shadow works well.

Guys - it's a view of Helvellyn's southern tops from Striding Edge.

All the best.

Difficult in my opinion to make this sort of shot really work Pete - Conveying the scale is pretty important to get full value - I suspect one needs to have a forground 'anchor' of one sort or another to create a relative value - Highlander has a keen eye for that

Another stunner! Exposure just right in a difficult lighting situation. You must have hand-held this - there's no space (and/or too many people!) to put a tripod up on Striding Edge! Smile

Thanks everyone.

Hi Cathy - can't remember, I did use the tripod often though while I was on the ridge.

Hi Dave - sometimes, including a foreground isn't possible, especially if it means falling of a ridge to include it! ;o)

Seriously, I take your point, which is why I included the stream in the frame to give some scale to the mountains. As much as I admire and respect Highlander's work, I think it's pretty pointless trying to emulate what he does. That's his style, and this is mine (although in development) for better or worse.

All the best,

Pete

Super shot Pete. This is really one for the mountain men on site who can identify with the image. I get the feel of being up there with you.
Not to worry, that time will soon come around again!

Best wishes, George.
