Super detail and the bracketing certainly worked.

Small, brown, boring butterfly? Not this one, the exquisite lighting and excellent use of dof turn it into a beautiful shot. Great capture.

The backlighting certainly works here, accentuating the hairs on the wings.
Well done for finding one that sat still long enough to take more than one shot!! Round here they see me coming and

Cracking little capture of these difficult to pin down small butterflies. One or two little problems from what I can see....The wings are a little soft especially the tops of. I also find the crop a little tight on this one....But that really is nit picking on what is a good capture!

Thoroughly agree Ade. I realised I was too close and not square enough on - but it was too risky to move the camera in dense foliage. 5 shots and it flew Grrrr!. Phil.

Someone else that likes the backlit technique, very nice Phil, well worth the effort.

This is a beautiful shot Phil, looks fantastic on that particular plant (can't think of it's name!) - John

Great shot Phil. No longer is the Small Heath common around here. All our heaths and dry grasslands are disappearing fast. Not only have you captured the rim with backlighting and the eyespot so well but the orange patch really glows like there's a little flame burning inside of the little beauty.

Lovely composition and details. I hadn't realised they were so tiny until you showed this on a plaintain flower. Good catch!
