Silver Studded blue at dawn

By PhilG_DPAGB
Taken at Crockford Heath New forest - 5.30 am mid June last year. The whole heath was like dancing jewels with morning dew. I took 5 rolls of film in 2 hours - got home before 8am to a lovely bacon butty. Returned last week and the Forestry Commission have control burnt the heath and the entire colony of several hundred SS Blues have been wiped out.

So what's good for grazing ponies is detrimental to butterfly colonies and opportunities for such delicate images it would seem.

Lovely photo, but I'm a bit saddened by how the Forestry Commision have wiped these all out.

lovely clarity, colour and composition
- beautiful image but a sad story.
(thanks for the lovely comments on my Monty image AND for understanding - why do PEOPLLE - especially those with power so often get things wrong ?)

To rub salt into the wound - there also appears to be controlled burning in March -right at the start of the nesting season. It seems ironic that signs are erected in these areas warning peolple of the risk of disturbance to ground nesting birds.
I fully understand that most things in the New Forest are "a crop" but cannot understand the insensitivity at times. Phil

It really is a superb shot on its own, but the dew makes it something extra special. Pity the Forestry Commision can't see what they are destroying.

Lovely shot. Great depth of field.
It's a pity about the controlled burning though.

Such a beautiful shot, with a gorgeous creature and such a dredful story. Surely they must've been aware the butterflies were there? Or is it one of those 'cruel to be kind' policies?

Very nice composition and a good shot, well caught.
