Many thanks, everyone, especially Ian and Trev for the user awards.

Bren, the basic conversion was done with Silver Efex. I then used dodging and burning to bring out detail and increase contrast where required.

Trev, I also did the classic shot from the centre at either side but I was determined to do something different. Too late for the mono comp though!

Thanks, Trev, it was about time I had a good play with the fish eye.

Sorry, Willie, I did upload the colour version when I posted the image but it seems to have gone missing. It is there now though.

With respect to what I am after, I like the background but not sure about the lad's shirt. The image is a potential for a camera club mono competition.

Willie I think something has gone a bit wrong with the resizing process to create the over sharpened effect. I have uploaded it again as a mod with some of your suggestions taken on board. I have also done a second mod to show the skin texture in detail.

  • Absolutely superb portfolio. Every shot in here just oozes class.
  • Willie,

Thanks again for your comments and mod. As you said I can learn alot from this shot and I have received some really good critique. As I walked past the area again afterwards I felt that I would have probably got a better result had I taken it from the opposite side so that the sun was behind me but I couldn't get my daughter to pose again. I have much to learn in the post processing department I think but I will enjoy doing so.

    Regards, Phil

  • Hi Lisa,
Many thanks for the mod on my upload. When I browsed your portfolio I thought you specialised in flowers but you really are a very good all-rounder. This is excellent work and I look forward to seeing more. Phil
