Great to watch the tadpoles in my garden pond. I didn't spot the structure just above the tadpole until processing. As far as I can tell from an internet search this is a chironomid midge egg mass - where a chain of eggs enclosed in a gelatinous matrix makes a helical structure - but please let me know if you know otherwise!

Beautiful image, I think the tadpole has emerged from the egg mass as is now on his lonesome journey to losing his tail and becoming a wee frog. Good luck to him/her, hope they avoid birds who find them tasty 🙂
