The main issue with hss is that it does take a lot of power. By this I donít mean it uses battery, although it will. Iím talking about each hss flash will be at a lower power output. With a speedlight on a bright day you may not have enough power in hss to light the subject and over power the sun. You certainly wonít be able to use a soft box with it so bare flash might just do it if itís not too bright.

The other issue with hss is you canít use a light meter in this mode.

I use a battery powered 600 watt mono light. This has the power of a studio strobe and therefore has the power for hss with light modifiers too. This system works well for me.
