Final Moments

By photographerjoe
Wow! Wow! Wow! In the garden today passing time photographing the birds at the feeders. A Starling who incidentally usually stays on the feeder for a while was acting strangely before fleeing into our Rhododendron bush. In a flash it was followed with a bang by this Sparrowhawk that flew out of the bush and landed virtually at my feet with the poor Starling.
It all happened in a flash and I struggled to frame the shot correctly, my 400mm lens was just too long for a image so close.. What an experience, although it was hard on the prey bird, it was amazing to be so close to nature at its most brutal......Tongue

Maybe not the most composed shot (in any sense), but you gain many points for presence of mind.

Beautiful image but nature can seem cruel
