GB HPT : Hound Point Crude Oil Terminal

By photowanderer
When light and cloud are right, even this grimly industrial crude oil exporting facility can form part of an attractive landscape. About a kilometre offshore and a kilometre long, the terminal fills up tankers with North Sea oil. The tanker in this photo, a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier), typical of a vessel in its class, is about 330 metres long, 60 metres in the beam and has a draught of about 20 metres when fully loaded. Tankers this size usually do long haul voyages round the Cape to the far east, taking nearly two months to get to China or South Korea.

The industrial scene is softened by the fabulous clouds provided by Mother Nature.
