Coot on the nest

By pluckyfilly
You wont believe the time spent on the PC today trying to find a solution to editing my images since I now have the Nikon D5200 first time I have used it and shoot in RAW I cant view the pictures because I have CS5 andddddddddddddddddd...............

Support for the following cameras is included in Camera Raw 7 and Lightroom 4. Camera Raw 7 is not compatible with Photoshop CS5.

took me ages to work this out and it may even be that I cant edit pics from the D300 unless I can find another solution - that will teach meSad

the Coot is from the nest that I captured the eggs from - many grateful thanks for all c/c's on yesterdays "regrets" image - a very pleasing and well supported shot, thank you

Looking very happy, sitting there, she is too. Smile

I'm not technical enough to help with your software though, Ann, sorry. I was lucky my Raw images just opened in CS5 (Canon 7D)

Great capture Ann, why not ask Nikon to sort it for you, after all they sell the cameras, send them an email if you do not get any luck here https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com

If you download the latest Adobe Camera Raw, then you will be fine.

A great image Ann, stunning detail and light. Nice to see her back on the nest.

Great capture of the nesting coot.

With regards to your RAW problem. CS5 opens my D300 files with no problem, as for the D5200 you could download the DNG converter from Adobe and convert your RAW files which will then open in any version of Photoshop.
You can find it here:

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5519

The converter runs as a separate program and you basically open the RAW files you want to convert into the converter, you then give them a location folder to save them to. I would suggest you make a new folder within the folder where the original RAW files are kept. Once you have run them through the converter, you can open the converted files in CS5 and they will act in exactly the same way as an original RAW file.
Hope this helps with your problem.

Use your Nikon software package Ann, save image as TIFF then you can do the rest in CS5.
Hope that helps

I had a similar problem with my camera. You should be able to download the relevant DNG converter. What I did I put the question in on google and followed the instructions. I may have even looked on you tube and followed the instructions off a video. You will get there in the end!
Excellent Coot pic, glad to see she came back to her eggsGrin

I got so fed up with Adobe's greed based policies that I switched to DxO Optics which does a better job at a fraction of the price and keeps supporting new models of cameras. For any complicated jiggery pokery I then use my CS3. You can try DxO free for a month.
Lovely capture of the coot!
