you may not like this but I do!

By pluckyfilly
I took loads of shots of this lamp post to try and get a better unobstructed view of the top minus trees etc. and what did I do but chop off the very top which I felt important, that posed me with a problem but I found a way to rectify it and for that reason I expect critique from pedantic epz'rs but today I will not mind too much as I got what I wanted in the endWink THIS btw is Stratford upon Avon and a lamp post they moved after their reconstruction of the theatre - the home of Shakespeare.
Many thanks for all c/c's on yesterdays upload always appreciated.

How very strange, A Midsummer Night's Dream meets Fiddler on the Roof. Obviously quite a challenge to photograph - public art often is! Awkward angles, messy backgrounds... The vote is for V4 which works best for me, but I cannot read the plaques so I would prefer V4 with the lower section cropped off, and a separate image of the plaques for information purposes.
I understand what you are trying to do in V1, but it doesn't work for me.

Sorry Moira, I never thought to take a separate pic of the placard and when I crop its too pixelated Sad next visit maybeWink

An amazing lamp-post, Ann, and very difficult to capture. I go with Moira, V.4 gets the vote, but I'm afraid V.1 does nothing for me, sorry Sad Carol

v1 is different and gets my vote. v4 looks 'chopped off' to me. It's a superb lampost - how did I miss this when we were there (although it does look pretty new).

V1 for me it's a hoot if every I had one, good for you doing what you did, it's no dafter than some of the other things I see here daily. I'm not sure what the Jewish sign is about with shakespeare? Maybe somebody will know.

Moira has summed up things so well here with this set, Ann: what an excellent find, and as she says, not an easy subject to capture well, but you have done a fine job.

Hey, don't worry about adding owl it just adds to the fun. The plaques do distract, so maybe cropping this off would help.

Hi Ann
It is a question of trial and error, as we have all been through and if we are honest still going through, keep going and acting on the advice given and it will all come together, V6 for me.

What a wonderful lamp-post! Smile A fine set, Ann, each image different, and hard to pick a fave, but I do rather like V1 Wink A shame they had to stick that 'No stopping' sign on it though! Sad

Certainly a most unusual lampost Ann,
And I think your unusual shot in V1,
suits the ''unusuallity'' of it all !!

I like the V5 one for the almost silhouette view there with a slight blue behind

Great fun shots Ann. You say you like it and that, really, is all that matters.

A great set Ann, I like V1 best, even though I'm not keen on the out of frame Owl

A super set Ann, v1 and v4 are the best. I recognised this ornate lamp post straight away before I even opened the thumbnail.

I love it, Ann, all the views! How delightful - why can't all streetlights be as charming! I noticed the sign with the menorah - is there a connection with the figures at the top? I wouldn't think so.

Do like the pics very unusual, and interesting, not easy to get a clear shot and near my old haunts.
To answer above, various places were asked to sponsor a lampost in the town. This one was sponsored by Israel, hence the Jewish connection, and features The Owl, from The Owl & Pussycat. Bottom, & The Fiddler from 'on the roof'.

He he...you are braver than me to add the bit on the top of the image......I know how hard it is to work out how to get a shot that matches the image you have in your minds eye.
