I want to try this experiment one other time. It is terribly hard to get a good picture through a dirty tinted glass (therefore without flash) and with the train in motion, though I love taking them!!!!

You should go on trying, Marian... they are the images that stay with us, full of dynamism and memory. The difficulty somehow invests the image with urgent observation; not to be missed; mindful in every way. The technical problems are incidental... it's the subject and the mood that matter the most. Well for me that is... I love this

I will keep trying, I must learn to do "low light" with better sharpness, otherwise I will not be able to make larger prints...Thanks for your support.
The location is different, the country is different.....and any of us who have ever waited for a subway have been there. Somehow, Marian, you have given this scene a kind of emotional darkness. And would a higher ISO help?

I wonder how many photographers would look at this and bin it if they had taken it, but it has an essence to it that makes you want to look again at so it works. Well done for showing it Marian

I agree totally with Bernard... the technical aspects are irrelevant, the poetry of the image is all that matters. It's dark and gritty and sooty and grainy. The atmosphere is thick...primeval.
The glinting light on the rails, and the approaching train... too dark to see anything, just its three eyes glowering as it draws closer...

An incredibly good image, one which provides the viewer with many messages whether they be from a photographic or social perspective, "Superb work"
Reminiscent of old film - love your artistic approach.
I think at 1600 ISO you may be over the limit for noise for that camera, Marian. If your lens will do it, you could have opened the aperture to f3.5 allowing you to reduce the ISO to ~800 and achieve much the same exposure at the same shutter speed. This would have reduced the noise, but decreased the Depth Of Field - although for this shot, a shallow DOF would not have mattered. The more expensive cameras will let you use higher ISO's.
But after all that techno babble, the composition is so cool, I had to give you an award - I love observing what photographers want to shoot; what makes them lift the camera to their eye - the subject
