Ra's Monochrome

By Potra
Hello everybody. I am happy to announce that I received my new cameras today, YAY! Smile
First I bought a Nikon Coolpix P520 and then I got scared thinking that I could be robbed walking around with that (it is gorgeousssssss gray!!!) in one of the most violent cities in the world. So...
I bought a Canon Powershot SX160 IS which is going to replace my old Kodak that died in battle (it fell hard hard on a concrete bench and died instantly).
So I am going from 6MP and 3X to 16MP and 16X! WOO-HOO!
I am reading the manual, I am serious, Wink and will take it slowly "learning by shooting" (all that Econ that I learned had to serve at least to make a pun!).
I have never driven so now I think I can understand people when they get their new cars...I am in love with my sweeties!
Thanks for your kindness and warmth.
Marian

A new camera always give you a boost. There will be no stopping you now. Hold on to it tight. Sad
This is one of your best. Powerful and contrasty but with that light touch that always comes through in your abstracts.

I didn't drop my old Kodak, I always use the wrist strap, but after 6 years it broke and the camera hit the bench, and then the floor. I was standing on the concrete bench trying to get a good shot of a palm. (those palms....hahaha!) BlushGrin

Thank your for the assessment of this shot, I was fascinated by the roundness of it. I got the title from a friend. Smile

I'm very pleased that you received your cameras safely.
I expect there is a steep learning curve in finding the correct buttons to press!
Instruction booklets always seem to be written in a strange language.

As for the image for today, it's up to your usual standard!

This palm is like a ladies fan - wonderful in mono - gives a touch of elegance.
I wish you many happy hours with your new camera - sad that you have to think about it's safety.

Thanks everybody for the good wishes. I will take it easy. The beautiful Nikon will stay home until I go on a trip where I can be reasonably sure I won't be robbed.

Thanks Alan, I won't forget, promise. I realize that in the search for distance one gives up sharpness. Like everything in Life, there is always a trade-off. That one I had to explain many times when I was an Econ professor. Smile

Dark Sun Rising was the original title I had in mind Smile, and then a friend suggested Ra's Monochrome.
