probably Pennsylvania Smartweed....(Polygonum pensylvanicum)

One of around 30 varieties of smartweed that can be found growing in moist areas here and there. The seeds provide food for song birds and water foul. Some of the small hairs ---part of the flowers--- can be seen. The knot like flowers measure about 1/8 of an inch.

What an interesting name! I hope no human tried snacking on these to up their IQ. If they did, it would probably explain their need of it.
