Hello again, and welcome back - it's a while since we saw you in the Critique Gallery!

This is rather beautiful, but we need to know more for critique purposes. Important: Please add the Exif for this! I think you have used Save for web, which strips the data from the file - in the Critique Gallery we need to see it. You can add it as a note here in Comments, or by editing the upload. We need:

Camera / device used
Focal length
Shutter speed
Aperture (F number)
How was the camera set - aperture priority? shutter speed priority? manual? program mode? auto?
Metering mode

I guess you know how to access that information? For reference, call up the thumbnail on your hard drive, then right click and select Properties (bottom of right click menu), then Details.

If you have done any significant processing, please add the original and a modification.

This is an ok image but as Moira has requested, we do need quite a bit of information from you.

As well as the very important exif data, we could do with knowing what you were hoping to achieve, what, if any, area you would like us to concentrate on so that we can do or best to help you.

I'll add a couple of further bits of information that we need from you: are you happy with the picture, and why (or why not)? What were you aiming for?

The original colour together with any details of your mono processing would be very useful, as there's a lot of mid grey tones, and some changes to the conversion process would, I'm sure, give this a deserved lift.

The information that has been requested will be very useful to the critiquers.

In the meantime, I have done a modification where I significantly cropped the image, removing all that is above the big wave and placing the cormorant on a thirds line. I cleaned the area around the silhouetted bird to give it a cleaner shape, removed some of the black bits (rocks?) in the water and also some lines that look like grasses or reeds floating in the water.

The silhouette works well against the rapidly moving water, and the highlights in the water are attractive. The image looks almost mono, so I have revealed a touch more colour in my modification, as well as some extra brightness.

I'll echo Pamela's comment - please, this is the Critique Gallery, we need that extra information particularly the Exif! Without it you are asking us to work in the dark.

It would be really helpful if we knew any of our critique has been helpful and to have some of the extra information we have asked you for.

Thank you for the exif data which I have added as a modification ( mod2)

Is there anything that we can particularly help with ?

I think Pamelas mod improves this image.

Thanks for adding that. Please do check that the information is included with any future Critique Gallery uploads - the uploading process includes a prompt to this effect. Don't use Save for web!

I cannot see Exposure mode. (Aperture priority? shutter speed priority? manual? program? auto?) A plus exposure compensation would have give a better effect for the water, more sparkle, without detracting from the bird's silhouette.

You were at your longest focal length, but it's a decent quality file that will take a crop. Pamela's modification is good, I may have a go.
