Snipe showing flexible bill

Snapped the yawn but was surprised at the flex in the beak. Interesting observationso does anyone know more about this?

How strange, not something I've ever seen before despite years of twitching.....

While some birds' bills appear to be hard they are in fact flexible, the term is called rhynchokinesis & I've noticed several wader species including Dunlin, Snipe & Godwits exhibiting this behaviour.

Thanks rev -just googled it very interesting I suppose it helps waders capture worms etc in mud and soil.
