Monday was a big day as the Tour De France or Le Tour came through Essex and passed within a quarter of a mile from where I live. I am not a cyclist though I did a bit as a youth, yes a long time ago but please don't rub it in, and I have always admired the stamina and bravery of the participants. Ever since I first saw it on TV I have held a desire to see it live so naturally I climbed the hill and waited for four hours along with a couple of hundred other enthusiasts. First came the Caravan, a series of decorated cars and floats featuring the sponsors and teams etc.
When the cyclists finally arrived they sped through the roundabout at nearly 40 miles an hour and I had to half watch them through my viewfinder and pan the camera. It was all over in two minutes, was it worth it, you bet it was. the atmosphere was wonderful and I did manage a few half decent shots.
The Peloton.
Today I had to take my oldest sister for a check up at a hospital in East London close to Victoria Park in Hackney. As we approached we saw lots of balloons, they were atop a whole fleet of London Taxis.
The traditional annual outing for disadvantaged children.
About 100 cabs took part all honking their horns as they set off with their police motor cycle escort.
Then it was a short walk to the Pavilion Café for a delicious cup of hot coffee and a walk in the park.
