This is about as straight and scientific an image that I've produced. I would like to point out that this fly is alive and kicking (that's why I chose an image with its leg moving) AND I would like to point out that I did not stick a pin in it's body or meddle with it at all. I did, however move the 'mini studio' to the yard where these insects were in abundance...
I just wish I had owned my better macro lens at the time so I could have got closer instead of cropping in.

That is STUNNING! Like I have said before, macro isn't usually my thing and I am not usually that bothered by wildlife images on the whole... not because I don't appreciate them, mainly because my interests lie elsewhere with photography, so I don't feel I am qualified to comment......but with your stuff, I just can't help it as you always seem to take macro stuff to a different level and see something else entirely different. This is no exception and must have taken a huge amount of time and patience to get the right image and boy, was it worth it! What a stunning bit of photography! Absolutely bang on the button....beautiful, detailed, superbly timed and highly skilled....just bloody fantastic!

A superb macro shot of something which is very difficult to capture.

Haha! Grin ...I thought someone might accuse me of such a heinous crime! Wink
No, this really is not a fake and I really did move the backdrop and minireflecters to the yard. Let's just say it's a freak of nature and some good fortune... Insects loose their iridescence when dead and they don't tend to move Tongue Furthermore, if anyone has tried cutting out in photoshop they would know that it's impossible to cut out a hair that's one pixel wide...

PS: Many thanx for your comments and votes, photobuds.

no vote im afraid cant see how you manage to freeze the wings of a hover fly and catch a twitch of a leg inflight . look at the photo chase of two butterflies he hasnt frose their wings at 2500/sec also the legs are not tucked up the wings inthe wrong postion also the right wing is damaged the only time insects twitch is when they are stunned.unless you can prove otherwise no vote.

That's fine, Shaun, I can live without the vote. I'm just having a bit of fun... You'd have to be closer to 1/4000th to start to freeze it's wings. The fact is, I didn't stun it or interfear with nature. I just prefer to leave some of my techniques to the lateral thinking of others. It was literally a freak of nature...

if you have a look at my ladybird on the buttercup it is in fact dead, dont worry i found it that way by my house lol,but the colours are not as good if it was alive, brill photo well captured.

I dont care if it's a fake or not! It's a great picture with very good macro detail. You have my vote! (pity the far wing is damaged though!)

Thanks for your comments guys... The far wing is probably damaged because these guys were swarming and getting trapped under a transparent plastic roof in my yard... they just constantly bash at it and buzz all over the place...
