Patch the dog

By Ray42
The notice on the door says - This is my patch - hence the dog was christened Patch by me.

It was taken in Yorkshire. standing at the gate of the farmyard about to photograph the old barn - when it barked!
I zoomed in and there was Patch.

Lol, I like this and it looks good to me. I would only say that I would have kept the top and bottom of the door frame in. I think the picture frame works well too.

I think this has a lovely range of colours and textures, even without the dog.

The dog adds a humorous element and was well spotted.

I do think the composition is not designed to focus the eye on the dog - I think it's about positioning and the way the eye tends to move around the picture. As the notice is not really readable a landscape format placing the dog differently in the frame may have worked - I've uploaded a cropped modification just to illustrate.

Quote:That's a brilliant shot from a humorous point of view, it's a shame the sign cannot be seen at such a low display size. Ways to improve? From a technical point of views a closer shot of the dog's head would be an alternative options and some light on the left hand side which is currently in shadow. There's no time in moments like this to grab a reflector to fill in, but if you can set it up again I'd do so with a reflector angled inwards to direct light back. or shoot again on an overcast day.
