Rob, have just accidentally come across your stuff via the pro critique gallery - Janet's Foss

Have to say that i really like it and just about everything you have on here.

I have been attempting some HDR style stuff myself but with very mixed results - could you possibly offer some tips / guidance please?

Rob, it was great to meet you, and I'm delighted that you took time to have a look at my stuff. Hope we do meet up in the future, even if I do get barked at. Love your stuff on Flickr by the way, maybe we'll see you post on here too!
Hope you got something useful from the Kimmeridge trip, at least to make up for being barked at for no obvious reason.
After seeing your portfolio I do feel temped to have another stab at some HDR, you certainly seem to have mastered the technique.
Maybe see you in the area again

Your PF is absolutely stunning, fantastically framed images. Without wanting to sound too much like a sycophant; if I could produce work to be a quarter as good as these images (one day) I would be chuffed to bits. I'm pleased to see so many of them taken with a Sigma 10-20 lens, I bought one a short while ago, I can see from your pics its potential, whether I can put it to work only time will tell. Thanks for your kind comments on the Broken Glass project of mine.

Hi Jon, spent some time looking at your galleries ... and very rewarding it was. Couldn't find an individual image to place above the others so thought I'd leave a comment against your whole collection ........ stunning Smile
An excellent PF. Started to view and vote, but too many excellent images. As images have "readers choice" awards, please take this as a vote on all.

I have to agree with David, this is a stunningly good pf and the descriptions that Jon gives with each photo really help to visualize the process he goes through to take each one. And he looks such a happy chap as well.

Cheers mate, keep up the good work.

I have thoroughly enjoyed browsing the first few pages of your portfolio, you have some great work here. I do like your choices of angles/POV, many of them more original than most landscape shots we see on here. I also like your use of HDR, much kinder on the eye than my current overuse. Sorry I have not commented on your pics individually as I have not time this morning, but I will be back to check out the rest of your images.

There are many excellent photographers here on ephotozine, some of them professional but many just very keen amateurs.
There is also a vast difference in ability as well, although all I'm sure we all try to achieve an end result that is up to a standard, some achieve this and others like myself are not quite as good as we would like to be, or even think we are, so we mere mortals look to others on the site so as to gain inspiration and guidance. One of the best mentors I feel anyway is Jon (redstag). His images are of a standard to witch I would love to attain with my photographs. Not only are his images first class but also his descriptions of what he is photographing also were it is (location). This I feel helps a novice like myself, it shows that one must sometimes get out and about and into different situations to advance oneself.
Jon is also one of the members of ephotozine that is willing to pass on his knowledge and skills to others who ask for help and in a way that the novice is able to understand.

Thank you Jon. Smile

Great portfolio. I'm really impressed with a lot of your photos.

Thanks for your feeback by the way on my pic and forum rant! I guess there was a bit of self-promotion in there, seems to have worked slightly - still yet to achieve that readers' Award though Wink

Keep up the great work and I'll be popping back to check out the new additions!

After reading the comments on your 'old man borders' posts....Was going to write this there but i think it's better said here.

Definately do it for yourself first Jon, and the site second! Getting critique is a good way to learn but dont let it be the driving force in your photography! I mean, a pro might have to conform to certain standards to make a living but the rest of us can focus on making images of things that we like, in the way we like!

For what its worth i happen to really rate your highly varied style! Both technically high quality AND very interesting. It would be dead boring if we all posted the same images!

Keep on keeping on my friend!

all the very best

I'll try the Photoshop levels treatment you suggest on my churchyard photo, but I'm planning to return to the location on a summer evening when the sun's low down and hopefully not behind the wall! - armed with some Velvia 50 in the camera.
