The Theological Hall

By Minty805
Walking around the hillside from Prague Castle, you arrive at Strahov Monastery, founded in 1140. Within the complex is the Strahov Library, one of the best-preserved historical libraries, and part of which is this oldest area, the Baroque Theological Hall, established between 1671 and 1674.
A late Gothic statue of St John the Evangelist and a book wheel from 1678 are visible. Down the centre of the hall are several splendid globes, terrestrial and astronomical, produced by masters of the craft.
The library as a whole contains almost 200,000 volumes. The shelving comes from the first part of that century and was initially in another area.
The room of this, and the nearby Philosophical Hall, are crowned by magnificent ceiling frescoes by Siard Nosecky and Anton Maulbertsch.
Thanks for looking.

Puts my local library to shame! Very impressive, with an equally beautiful ceiling, which you have captured with lovely colours and details, plus a comprehensive introduction.

Such a wide dynamic range, youve done well to retain most of the highlights.

Ive tried two mods, hoped to get more highlight detail but couldnt; the second mod used an adaptive wide angle correction to try to get the centre of the ceiling in line all the way back, - its sort of successful, but loses a few bits unfortunately.

Thanks for the mods, Willie. It certainly was a wide dynamic range. I probably should have done an exposure blend. From memory, I'm not sure whether the original or the mod is closer to the actual scene at the time - it was probably somewhere between the two. I did fiddle with the distortions, and that was about as close as I could get - yours is better.

It's very beautiful, especially that ceiling! An interesting story about it, and a super capture, Allan 👍🏻 Your original as shown here works best for me, it looks more natural 😃

Wow! You've done well to record all the ornate, lustrous detail in this marvellous room, Allan, especially considering the somewhat limited capacity of the 4/3 sensor to capture darker tones. Thanks also for the interesting information about the library. Bob
