Another from Tuesdays day out with Rich & Fran. This is the small stream that flows through Gordale Scar on its way to Janet's Foss.
Feeling much better today ... well, I was until the car went into service and they've just called to let me know when it'll be ready, but more to the point how much it's going to cost ... OUCH!!!
Have a great day folks, catch you later.
Cracking shot !
Glad you think so John ... a fair few don't seem to agree
All the best matey,
Fantastic mate, the detail is superb, is it HDR?
No mate, single shot, just a 2 stop ND to slow things down a little more. The light was quite flat which helped ... maybe the flat light is what's putting some of it too!!!
a good spot and tons of interest to look at...plus I love this place
As I said when I saw it on your camera, just love all those triangle thingies going on!
... thought you wouldn't to be honest Rich, glad you did though.
Cheers for t'award too mate, made the paying for the car servicing a little easier!!!
Thanks too missus x
When you said about it I wasn't too enthusiastic I must admit but it's quite an awesome place.
That it is young man, that it is
Well it certainly has bags of detail mate......now what was that processing secret you were gona tell me again!
What secret was that then mate ... that was SOOOOOOOO last year!!!
He he he, LMFAO!!!
I should have asked yesterday when ya brain wasnt functioning mate.
Impressive, Paul. Superb viewpoint. Ron.
Cheers Ron, I tried out my new walking boots and was made up to see how waterproof they are
Thanks too Colin, appreciate it.
I was gonna say 'get back to work' ..... but you aint in!
Nice image mate, another natural pic.
Paul,When I looked at the thumbnail (without knowing whose shot it was) I thought something was out of focus bottom left.
Great water shot but it is a bit distracting ...maybe it's this that "is putting people off".
That said I love it...great memories of awesome place.
LOL @ Ian ... but I can say it to you ... GET BACK TO WORK!!!
Cheers for that Keith, it could be one reason, but no-one has said so, so I don't/won't know.
Quote: LOL @ Ian ... but I can say it to you ... GET BACK TO WORK!!!
I would be there aint nowt to do! twiddlin mate, twiddlin.
back to malham AGAIN!!!!
you're an addict, man!
I've got lots from this stream and never really been blown away by the results - I think it's so hard to convey the scale of the place somehow, and the limestone often looks very samey and grey. I think ths one falls into that category - it looks good to the eye when you're there, but doesn't really pop out of the screen at you in a photo.
You were obviously fighting a flat light day too so good effort in the circumstances.
Ta guys and thanks for the constructive comment Ade.
Yeah, fighting a little with the flat light, but as you know the place Ade, had there been any sort of light to utilise then it would've been behind me casting my shadow into the scene.
We avoided 'that' tree and explored a little more and ended up on top of the Cove which was a first for me. Spotted another couple of possible areas too which we will be going back to in better conditions.
It's ace up there - there's quite a few shots of the area in my book - do a search for Yorkshire on Blurb
end of plug
I've cloned my shadow out from this spot a few times ! One good place is where the stream goes under a fence, you can set the camera up just by the wall and then duck behind it - no shadow!
used to sit on the cove with my legs dangling over the edge... the folly of youth eh? I hardly dare crawl to the edge these days!
Have you climbed up the waterfall in Gordale? There's a dry valley behind it which may have potential?
Climbed up it - nah!!! I've seen others do it, in fact a bloke carried his Irish Wolfhound up when we were there ... it looked scared stiff, poor thing. I was pretty close to the edge on the cove too, heights don't bother me too much, all them years climbing trees and stuff as a kid I suppose - though admittedly, I'm not quite as adventurous these days, I've learned to be a little more careful!!!
There's also a dry valley that runs behind the cove back towards the Tarn which looks promising too mate.
...may have a look up on the weekend if it's not as miserable as it is now. I've climbed the waterfall 10-15 times, though each time gets harder!
LOL ... I can imagine it ain't gettin' easier
Good detail and exposure here hope you had a good one and has the garage bill just sobered you up lol,
... very sobering mate!!!
Thanks for the new year's greeting Paul. I hope you, Fran, and Beth have a fantastic 2009. Super shot as well mate!
impressive when viewed LARGE!
All the best for this year, Paul..........
Cheers guys and many thanks for your best wishes too. Have a great year yourselves.
Nice shot Paul, I was up here last week for the first time, was pretty boring light-wise but the waterfalls kept me busy for a good afternoon. I took a few from near here but not got round to processing them yet - I do like the different layers in this rising up.
Happy new year to you both!
Cracking shoot Paul! Fantastic details in the rocks and many things to look at, nice stream too. Great job!
Thanks Nick and Pavol, glad you both like it too.
Lovely place isn't it Nick? All the best to you too
Good detail shot of this stream, which would normally have been overlooked in the rush to get to the fall at the end (guilty m'lud!)
Beautifully gritty throughout, and that little water movement offsets the hard rigidity of the landscape beautifully. I'm sorry to hear about the car. Bl**dy expensive necessities, aren't they.
Happy New Year Paul....
Quote: guilty m'lud!
... me too, normally!!!
All the best to you and yours too Chris!!!
