Limestone Country ...

By sut68
Another from Tuesdays day out with Rich & Fran. This is the small stream that flows through Gordale Scar on its way to Janet's Foss.

Feeling much better today ... well, I was until the car went into service and they've just called to let me know when it'll be ready, but more to the point how much it's going to cost ... OUCH!!! Sad

Have a great day folks, catch you later.

Paul

No mate, single shot, just a 2 stop ND to slow things down a little more. The light was quite flat which helped ... maybe the flat light is what's putting some of it too!!!

Paul,When I looked at the thumbnail (without knowing whose shot it was) I thought something was out of focus bottom left.
Great water shot but it is a bit distracting ...maybe it's this that "is putting people off".

That said I love it...great memories of awesome place.

back to malham AGAIN!!!!

you're an addict, man! Wink

I've got lots from this stream and never really been blown away by the results - I think it's so hard to convey the scale of the place somehow, and the limestone often looks very samey and grey. I think ths one falls into that category - it looks good to the eye when you're there, but doesn't really pop out of the screen at you in a photo.

You were obviously fighting a flat light day too so good effort in the circumstances.

Ta guys and thanks for the constructive comment Ade.

Yeah, fighting a little with the flat light, but as you know the place Ade, had there been any sort of light to utilise then it would've been behind me casting my shadow into the scene.

We avoided 'that' tree and explored a little more and ended up on top of the Cove which was a first for me. Spotted another couple of possible areas too which we will be going back to in better conditions.

It's ace up there - there's quite a few shots of the area in my book Wink - do a search for Yorkshire on Blurb Smile

end of plug

I've cloned my shadow out from this spot a few times ! One good place is where the stream goes under a fence, you can set the camera up just by the wall and then duck behind it - no shadow!

used to sit on the cove with my legs dangling over the edge... the folly of youth eh? I hardly dare crawl to the edge these days!

Have you climbed up the waterfall in Gordale? There's a dry valley behind it which may have potential?
sut68 Plus

Climbed up it - nah!!! I've seen others do it, in fact a bloke carried his Irish Wolfhound up when we were there ... it looked scared stiff, poor thing. I was pretty close to the edge on the cove too, heights don't bother me too much, all them years climbing trees and stuff as a kid I suppose - though admittedly, I'm not quite as adventurous these days, I've learned to be a little more careful!!! Wink

There's also a dry valley that runs behind the cove back towards the Tarn which looks promising too mate.

Nice shot Paul, I was up here last week for the first time, was pretty boring light-wise but the waterfalls kept me busy for a good afternoon. I took a few from near here but not got round to processing them yet - I do like the different layers in this rising up.

Happy new year to you both!

Beautifully gritty throughout, and that little water movement offsets the hard rigidity of the landscape beautifully. I'm sorry to hear about the car. Bl**dy expensive necessities, aren't they.
