    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the critique I really appreciate it.

I see what you mean with the composition and either moving to the left a bit or to the right to change the angle.

The wide aperture I think was a result of me still getting to grips with manual settings. My main thought process here.....and i can see where i went wrong to a degree......was arggggghhh need more light switch to a wide aperture.

Where now if i look again at it I would have been better of upping my ISO and going for a smaller aperture.

  • Those eyes !

    Thanks dudler.

I did edit this shot originally to "dull" down the lips at first. But wasn't to sure so went with the original image haha.

Wow some really awesome critique here thank you so much.

I can see now that i way over softened this so did a bit of research and self learning on another approach to post work. I have uploaded a modification with a tighter crop and a much more even skin tone with more subtle smoothing. Thoughts?

I'm using several techniques in CS6 to edit.

Surface Blur combined with High Pass - Opacity as needed.
Changing the Image Mode to CMYK and copying the "Yellow" Channel then pasting it back into RGB with Soft Light as the overlay.
Also used dodge and burn to enhance shadows and highlights
Also used a masked Hue/Saturation to make the blue hair pop a bit more.

Just going to upload the original now.

    Kind Regards
    Ryan Dinnage

    Thankyou for the comments.

Yeah it's my wife and two of my daughters. I've been practicing alot and they have been a great help.

In this shoot they were very wary and i was getting a lot of "stiff cardboard" looking shots. So I popped out from behind the camera and said "Right lets get mummy to lie down.........no girls lay on top of here"

They loved it, was a great result and their faces just lit up.
