A Daft Monkey

A big departure for me but excited by something new. This is Athene Roberts, a member of a brilliant band called 3 Daft Monkeys. They played Trowbridge Village Pump Festival this weekend and were quite simply superb. They brought the house down with their blend of world, folk, celtic, gypsy, dub, funk. If you like that kind of fusion music then I can highly recommend their new album Social Vertigo. The Trowbridge Festival is a great event too.

By the way this was taken with no flash and a high ISO so grainy as a result but I think that's par for the course with live music photos. It always used to be when I read Melody Maker all those years ago. Thanks for looking.

I love live stage photography, with all its wild colours, unpredictable shadows, its rawness, and this is a good example. It has the energy and fire that a studio shoot will never give.
