The Upper Duddon

By robs
A quick trip up the Duddon this afternoon for me - although it was getting a touch exciting with the ice on the road! I had planned to get right to the head of the valley but with the light fading fast, and the road conditions, I decided to cut my losses and go with the backup plan...There are a series of stepping stones the whole length of the river, and I am pretty sure they have been there since antiquity. The whole valley has an ancient feel to it which is pretty unique in the Lake District - and is probably why I love the place so much!..This was taken standing in about a foot of running water as the temperature dropped below 0 deg C. I was there for about half an hour so my feet are blocks of ice! I gave up trying a second composition as my fingers ceased to work... must remember gloves next time! It was a 2 minute exposure (Lee Big Stopper) with a 0.6 grad holding the sky back.
