Emergence

By Platchet
Almost gave up looking for dragonflies this morning due to the drissle and wind but then found this beauty just emerged from its exuviae. Spent over an hour trying to get it right in awful conditions but pretty pleased with this one.

I'm struggling with the ID as they are not in full colour this early hatched biut I'm going for Southern Hawker. Any help appreciated!

Cheers
Gary
PS Large is wonderful.....Smile

Nicely captured and well done for persistance. I would go with your ID too. Spooky really cos I was just processing the same thing from one I spotted some weeks ago and still haven't got around to uploading due to my good friend Mossyoak beating me to the upload.

Well done for finding this on such a miserable day Smile Very nice macro and payment for your perseverence!!
I can't quite make out the exuvia but i think it's a Common Hawker, The Southern Hawker has two broad stripes on the thorax just behind the head and this one looks to have the beginnings of two thin stripes. Also, the pale markings on the side of the thorax are not large enough for a Southern Hawker and look much more like Common Hawkers markings.
If ever you need an ID for Dragonflies or Damselflies there are some very helpful folk at UK Dragonflies, Mike or Jerry would be able to confirm it for you in the ID requests in the forum, check out; www.ukdragonflies.com

Made me laugh that!!

As for this image, who needs a top of the range macro lens with stonking shots like this. The detail is just mesmerising Gary. Love it.
