Our Winter

By ronss
Used a cheap eBay grad "Cokin" style filter. Don't know what degree of ND it creates.

Went up into the mountains with my brother and his new Nikon D80, and my son and our two dogs. Not much of a day -- our usual winter. The Okanagan Valley has several lakes (the longest, Okanagan Lake, is about 140km long. This means that as the air cools, we get low cloud along the mountains, and the valley is usually cloudy from late November until late February. Sun is rare and greatly appreciated. Even in the mountains above the valley, the Pacific cloud keeps us covered much of the winter. It would only have been about -5 (Celsius) up in the mountains, and my battery did just fine with the camera out hanging around my neck the whole time.

Seasonal Affective Disorder, anybody?

Nah. I've got my Canon EOS 30D and Photoshop Elements. Who cares what the weather is -- go shoot and bring it home and play with it.

I think you used the grad filter very effectively here giving a very well-balanced exposure. The composition is great, well done!
