Great Pyramids of Giza

By RosaB
This is another photo that I have digitally manipulated to improve it! Please see my other pics from Egypt in my gallery to show the problem I had.

I have changed the colour, brightness and cropped it. I staighten the horizon line in the distance where you can see the tower blocks and skyscrapers of Cairo. The pyramids are actually standing on a slight incline.

Also I have cloned out[using photoshop limited edition] a very ugly kiosk or shed that was on the left side of the road near the carriages and distracted the eye.

To give you an idea of the layout of Giza you follow the road to the other side of the pyramids and at the bottom of the hill you come to the sphinx. My first picture shows the sphinx with the largest pyramid in the centre of this picture and the 2nd one with the smaller pyramid on the right of this photo.

I would be very grateful for any advice and comments as I want to improve my photography!

This makes a pleasing composition. I like the way you can see the city between the pyramids. My only criticism is the rather plain foreground & the absence of anything (e.g. humans) to show the impressive scale of the structures. Perhaps those are vehicles on the road, but they are too small to judge their size. I'm sure a larger reproduction than here would work better.

Thankyou John for your advice and encouragement. The vehicles you can see are the traditional horse-drawn carriages you see everywhere in Egypt so are quite large! I agree a larger reproduction is better but if you look very carefully at the small dots,on the brow of the hill, halfway between the road and the smaller pyramid these are actually more carriages and camels so you can get a better idea of the scale of the pyramids!
Unfortunately the people are all on the other side of the pyramids where the entrance to the underground chamber is situated.

I really like this composition. The view to the distant villages makes it especially nice. This is a perspective that is not often seen when photos of the pyramids are taken. This really puts them in place in their surroundings. Well done!

It wasn't too hot there Callum because we went in February. It was about 28c but in the summer it can go up to 45c! It was a marvellous holiday and you must go their one day!
