Area de Elche

By roverfoxy9
Motorway service station, Elche, Alicante, Spain. Went a bit wild with the sliders on the channel mixer. Taken very early this morning. Would welcome any constructive criticism.

Surreal and dream like. It really caught my eye. I never would have imagined a petrol station would make such an interesting composition. I'd love to see it larger.

It's a good treatment of a mundane subject. The composition bothers me a little, mainly where the left side of the canopy is cut off. It looks like you could have swung the camera around to the left slightly, including all the canopy and losing the back end of the car on the right edge of the frame.

It does have a kind of IR feel, but not overly so.

hi munkyboy - thanks for the comments. I did consider doing what you said, framed it, and didn't like the way the other (right-hand) tip of the canopy was going out of the frame. Stepping back (fence) or changing lenses was not an option either. I do have a Sigma 17-70mm lens that came with my 7D, but am probably going to have to sell it so that the kids can have a Christmas !! So yesterday I was trying to get used to using the 28-85 as a 'walkabout' lens. Despite the potential problems with framing this one, I was quite happy with it. In the past when I've had extreme wide angle zooms (eg 17-35mm on film camera), I've often gone to the wide end by default, and ended up including too much in the frame. Using the 28-85 yesterday made me think more about composition, instead of just collecting the whole landscape. I also considered burning out the car, and maybe I should have.

thanks - I'm not sure exactly what you mean by chromium picture. Are you suggesting I try a different effect, or are you saying it's already a chromium picture ?
