Ginger Moggy

By roverfoxy9
Taken half an hour ago in a little doorway round the corner from our house - I woke him/her from his/her afternoon nap unfortunately. Auto-levels in PS, but no selective desaturation of the steps.

Any constructive comments welcome. This is the first time I've done a drop shadow, hope I've done it OK.

This shot was nearly a victim of the delete button before I tweaked it in PS, and then I decided to upload it here because I love the contrast of the cat's coat against the dull cement steps and wall, and I like the degree to which the bars are out of focus. There's a lot of texture in the wall too which I like. I don't normally do animal shots, but I thought this was better than my usual efforts. Please be as negative in your critiques as necessary, as I'm here to learn.
Thanks for looking.

Lovely. Superb light and composition. Would have been even better if all of the cat was in shot.

Love it. The orange really stands out from the background.

I really do like the contrast, not only in the colours, but also the hard lines of the steps and rails versus the soft rounded lines of the cat. I would be tempted to remove the leaf on the step ?

Thanks both. I don't know what I was talking about "not normally doing animals" - I've just realised I've got a horse, birds, fish, monkey and now a cat on first 2 pages ! They creep up on you don't they, these animals.

You're right about the leaf Joe, but I'm getting fed up cloning out stuff, er I mean I deliberately left it in to add to the dinginess of the scene, ahem.

Youve captured some lovely texture and tones in the steps and wall, and the composition is very good, with the colour of the cat providing good colour contrast, I like the way you have captured eye contact through the railings too.

As you do, I really like the contrast between the colourful cat and the steps. I like the use of the gate as framing although I wish it wasn't covering part of the cat's head. Good one though.

Agree about the contrast between the subject and background. Glad you didn't delete it. I've run out of time but i am going to come back and look at some more of your photos later! - regards Robin
