This is a great Macro, I think the hover fly is sizing up the young cricket for dinner. The cricket as made an average hover a stunner.

why do you worry so - I havent yet seen an upload of yours that is not good Nick this one included well done.

I think as we improve we get more and more self critical but honestly your doing ok - I know I am very critical of my own work - I wasnt sure of the magnolia I posted but it seemed to do ok at the end of the day

You really nailed the detail in this one. Perfect focus on the hoverfly's eyes and we get the impression he is eyeing his next meal with the tiny cricket (thing) although he was probably more interested in the nectar he has all over his chops!

Perhaps a panoramic shot here would be interesting focusing more on the contact between the two insects?
